Can one believe in a different kind of Higher Power and remain truthful to oneself when pressured by family members to get confirmed in their own religion?
This piece is composed of many layers, just like in a family. Within a family, one encounters many faces and emotions. Lies, hatred, embarrassment, anger, and resentment are hidden beneath the surface. Can one be a Devil’s child in one’s eye and still be a good person? This piece is an exploration of Hell, how one sees oneself as a Devil. Each square represents something perceived as evil, while the color red emphasizes this association. Each fragment reveals only a part of a face or body, just like one is seen in pieces rather than as a whole. It is one’s personal Hell created by silent pressure and judgment for being wrong for who one is in the eyes of the ordinary. This work of art explores the judgment imposed by religion and questions whether condemning others is truly what we were taught to do in the pursuit of a “perfect” humanity.
